There is no exaggeration or crying in our story: Kumaran

Deepak Dinkar and Nakshathra Nagesh come together for a fun TV soap, Thamizhum Saraswathiyum. Helmed by popular TV director S Kumaran, the story revolves around two different people, with unique problems. “The show will be all fun, though,” smiles Kumaran, adding, “It has been a stressful time for all of us due to the pandemic. When people switch on their televisions, I don’t want to show them anything that’s negative or depressing.
As a creator, I have that responsibility and want to showcase something that’s fun. This serial revolves around two positive people — Thamizh and Saraswathi, played by Deepak and Nakshathra respectively.”
Giving us a glimpse of the story, he says, “Saraswathi is a bubbly and enthusiastic girl who wants to be happy in life. But she has always been looked down upon for not being able to complete her class 12 exams. She decides to get married to escape from the constant criticism from her father for not studying properly. And then there is Thamizh aka Thamizhselvan, who is a responsible and respectable guy, but stopped his education and took over the family business at a very young age due to certain circumstances. What happens when these two people meet? That’s the crux of the story.”
Meera Krishnan plays Thamizh’s mom and Rekha essays Saraswathi’s mom. “The serial also revolves around these three women — Meera, Rekha and Nakshathra. Three of them have three different perspectives towards life — Meera and Nakshathra have a positive outlook towards life, while Rekha’s character has shades of grey. But this will be an uplifting story about women and the men who revolve around their lives,” says Kumaran.
Actor and anchor Deepak will be back on the small screen after a long gap. “Deepak and I go back a long way. All I had to do was just to call him and he agreed to come on board. I couldn’t think of anyone else in the role of Thamizh except him,” says the director, adding, “As for Nakshathra, I feel she has a child-like enthusiasm, which was perfect for the role. She is a fine performer, too. There is no exaggeration in our story and definitely no crying. All the characters, too, are portrayed in a realistic manner.”
The team is taking utmost precaution during this time. “Safety comes first. I ensure everyone is wearing masks while we shoot. The pandemic has created a fear amongst people and everyone is being careful about it.”
