Lisa Ray criticises ‘Barbie’, calls it ‘a marketing push of female oppression’; Netizen ask her ‘Have you seen the film?’

Margot Robbie-starrer ‘Barbie’ has become a global hit with the film earning a whopping $337 million at the international box-office on its first weekend. As the film continues its successful run at the box-office, actress Lisa Ray has shared her views on the craze around the Greta Gerwig-directorial. In a tweet, she wrote ‘Genuine question to the Woke millennials and Gen Zers: how are you not only not up in arms over the Barbie movie - which is really a huge marketing push for an agent of female oppression cloaked as a movie - but many of you are also participating in Barbiecore and posting cute photos in hot pink? How?! I see young influencers who raise the alarm against social inequalities and sexism and yet are fervently celebrating a movie that not matter how subversive, brings unwelcome Barbie standards and it’s legacy to the next generation of girls. I can only think that marketing budgets got to them. Please enlighten’. Lisa’s tweet received several comments from netizens; while some agreed with her, there was a section that had opposing views. A user wrote, ‘Good observation Lisa. Many women are in the midst of this odd “attractive but unintelligent” trend in which being super feminine is highly accepted and presented on SM’, whereas another one wrote ‘Dude u have clearly not watched the movie. And what's wrong with looking cute in pink. If id painted my face black with coal for oppenheimer there would be no problem. Everyone can dress how they want and if thats in pink for a barbie movie then so be it. U cannot judge.’ For more news and updates, stay tuned to ETimes.
