Meghan Markle gets real about motherhood, work, and finding balance in a post-pandemic world: "I don’t want to miss those moments"
Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, has recently opened up about the realities of balancing motherhood with her professional life. In a heartfelt conversation, she spoke about managing work while raising her two young children—Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.

Parenting in post-pandemic world

Meghan talked about her daily interactions with Whitney Wolfe Herd, in the first episode of her new podcast, ‘Confessions of a Female Founder’. She discussed how parenting has evolved in the post-pandemic world, as many people—including herself—have adapted to working from home. This change allows Meghan to continue working toward her goals while still being there for her kids.
“We became moms in the pandemic, post-pandemic culture, where there is so much working from home.… I don’t leave the house to go to an office; my office is here,” shared Meghan. Further, using Lilibet's preschool schedule, which only consists of half days and nap times, she gave an example from her own life.
Meghan clarified that Lilibet knows where to look for her, even if she's in her office for a meeting. Many people talk about balance and multitasking. “She only has a half day in preschool. If she wakes up and wants to find me, she knows where to find me, even if my door is closed to the office. She’ll be sitting there on my lap during one of these meetings with a grid of all the executives.… I wouldn’t have it any other way. I don’t want to miss those moments. I don’t want to miss pickup if I don’t have to. I don’t want to miss drop-off," said the 'Suits' actress.
She also shared her experience with postpartum preeclampsia, a dangerous medical condition, during that same conversation. She described it as a scary time, but she did not specify which pregnancy it affected. It was particularly difficult for her to balance her health as a new mother and her obligations.
New responsibilities
With the debut of her podcast and lifestyle brand ‘As Ever,’ Meghan recently took on new professional responsibilities. She wants to help and learn from other women establishing their paths through these platforms. Her honest observations offer a sympathetic perspective on the contemporary reality of working mothers carrying multiple responsibilities, one Zoom meeting and preschool nap at a time.
