Gandhinagar: On the eve of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, the state govt on Sunday said that several schemes are being implemented for the empowerment of the scheduled castes (SC) communities in the state. An official statement said that 1,822 scheduled caste students are presently studying in 25 model residential schools, while 4,924 students receive free accommodation and meals in 79 govt hostels. The statement added that for the year 2024-25, 13,150 students gained admission to Samras hostels, including 2,110 from scheduled tribes.
The govt provided financial assistance to SC students at various levels. Under the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme, Rs 47.86 crore was provided to 3,57,095 students, while Rs 297.08 crore benefited 1,54,837 students under the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme.
The govt said training assistance was given to 150 SC youth under the Agniveer Training Scheme to enable them to join the army. tnn
