NEW DELHI: The Kolkata Traffic Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory in connection with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 fixture between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The match is set to commence at 7.30pm, and to facilitate smooth vehicular movement and ensure public safety, special traffic arrangements, diversions, and parking restrictions will be enforced from 4pm to 1am (next day).
Key restrictions and diversionsThe movement of goods vehicles will be restricted, suspended, or diverted in and around Eden Gardens and the Maidan area during the advisory period.
Restricted zones: Specific traffic restrictions will be enforced around Victoria Memorial, including stretches of:
- AJC Bose Road (between DL Khan Road and Cathedral Road)
- Hospital Road
- Queensway
- Cathedral Road
- Casuarina Avenue
- Lovers Lane
Road closures:In addition, Kshudiram Bose Road (Auckland Road), North Brooke Avenue, and Gostha Pal Sarani (Kingsway) will remain closed to all vehicles.
Vehicles heading toward the High Court may be rerouted via Esplanade Row West instead of Auckland Road and North Brooke Avenue, based on real-time decisions by the traffic police.
No-parking zones:Parking will be prohibited on both sides of the following roads, with enforcement by traffic personnel:
- Gostha Pal Sarani (Kingsway)
- Kshudiram Bose Road (Auckland Road)
- Government Place East
- Rani Rashmoni Avenue
- Old Court House Street
- Indira Gandhi Sarani (Red Road)
- Guru Nanak Sarani (Mayo Road)
- Dufferin Road
Traffic diversions will be in effect during restricted hours as part of the traffic management plan for Kolkata Knight Riders’ home matches at Eden Gardens.
Buses and minibuses coming from South Kolkata towards BBD Bag will be diverted via either Rani Rashmoni Avenue, Netaji Statue, Government Place East, and Old Court House Street, or alternatively through J.L. Nehru Road, Bentinck Street, Mission Row, and Mangoe Lane, based on traffic volume.
Similarly, vehicles approaching from North and East Kolkata will be rerouted through Central Avenue, Ganesh Chandra Avenue, Mangoe Lane, S.N. Banerjee Road, Rani Rashmoni Avenue, and Esplanade Row East, depending on the prevailing conditions.
Motorists from South Kolkata can access the BBD Bag area using AJC Bose Road, St. Georges Gate Road, and Strand Road, leading to Kiran Sankar Roy Road. Vehicles from the northern and eastern parts of the city can reach the same destination through B.B. Ganguly Street, S.N. Banerjee Road, and other notified roads.
Additionally, Howrah-bound buses and minibuses from South and South-West Kolkata—coming via routes such as D.H. Road, Khidderpore Bridge, Belvedere Road, or J.L. Nehru Road—will be redirected through St. Georges Gate Road, the AJC Bose Road Ramp, Dufferin Road, and Strand Road, when necessary.
Additional traffic notices:- No parking will be permitted for taxis, private buses, or other vehicles in and around Eden Gardens.
- The Band Stand and Auckland Road bus stands will be relocated to Kiran Shankar Roy Road, Esplanade Row East, and the Central Bus Terminus on match days.
- Police may impose further diversions on major and feeder roads in real time to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety.
These measures are part of an overarching traffic management plan in place for the entire season of Kolkata Knight Riders’ home matches. Similar protocols will be enforced for upcoming games against Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings.
