‘The Diplomat’ box office collection Day 3: John Abraham starrer makes Rs 13.30 crore in its opening weekend

The Diplomat, directed by Shivam Nair and headlined by John Abraham, is a thriller drama based on true events. It opened in theatres this Friday, and within three days of its theatrical release, it had collected more than Rs.10 crore. The film maintained a steady pace at the box office and thus showed numbers higher than the early expected trade predictions.

The movie chronicles the rescue journey of an Indian girl, Uzma Ahmed. She is deceived into marriage and then finds herself trapped in Pakistan. In her attempts to escape her captors, Uzma reaches out to J.P. Singh, the Indian diplomat, who then plays one of the most important roles in doing right by Ahmed. The film, on its third day, has collected Rs.4.65 crore (early estimates), according to the Sacnilk report. With this, the opening week collection of the film has reached Rs.13.30 crore net in India.

This thriller drama opened with a decent number of Rs.4 crore on Friday, and then on Saturday with a growth of more than 16 per cent, it minted Rs.4.65 crore. The early estimates show that day 3 recorded the same numbers, ensuring that the film has maintained a momentum at the ticket window.
On the other hand, ‘Chhaava’ with Rs 8 crore collection on its fifth Sunday, beat ‘The Diplomat’ and has emerged as the reigning king of the box office.
However, ‘The Diplomat’ stood as strong second choice, the credit for which can be given to the lead star John Abraham, who is playing J.P. Singh in te movie. The actor is getting high praise from the audience and the critics alike. ETimes review of ‘The Diplomat’ also reads, "John Abraham delivers one of his most nuanced performances as the empathetic and resolute diplomat. He balances quiet authority with wry humour, particularly in moments where he subtly challenges Pakistani officials.
