Karan Johar’s
Koffee with Karan premiered with
Ranveer Singh and
Deepika Padukone as the first guests. The Bollywood couple, together for 11 years, shared their love story and proposal for the first time. They revealed that while filming Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, they became almost inseparable.
The First SparkOn the show, Ranveer shared that he was in a long-term relationship before meeting Deepika, who was single at the time. She joined Ram-Leela after
Kareena Kapoor left. He recalled having lunch at
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s house, where a piece of crab got stuck in Deepika’s teeth. When he pointed it out, she asked him to clean it. As he used his pinky finger, he felt an instant spark—like a 440-watt jolt.
A Unique Relationship DynamicDeepika shared that when she and Ranveer started dating, they were free to see other people, but she always found herself returning to him. She felt committed in her mind, though there was no formal commitment until he proposed. Ranveer knew she was "the one" within six months. They began dating in 2012, got engaged in 2015, and kept it a secret for three years.
Ranveer and Deepika revealed that they were inseparable during the filming of Bhansali’s movie, spending all their time together. Ranveer recalled a kissing scene where a brick was meant to enter through the window. When a real brick actually flew in, they didn’t even notice because they were so lost in each other.
The Dream ProposalRanveer shared that he proposed to Deepika in the Maldives after years of dating. While his parents knew, Deepika’s parents were unaware. He described the moment as magical—just the two of them on a small patch of sand in the middle of the sea. Surprised and emotional, Deepika said yes.
Ranveer shared how they informed Deepika’s family about their engagement. After returning from the Maldives, he had a plan, but Deepika announced it unexpectedly during a family dinner with guests. While everyone congratulated them, Ranveer sensed tension. Deepika felt breaking the news in a larger group would make it easier.
