Decision on Tush-Push ban pushed to May 2025

The NFL has postponed its decision to ban the 'tush-push' play until May. Rich McKay, NFL Competition Committee chair, mentioned the focus on safety and historical rules against pushing and pulling. Reactions are mixed, with some players and X users supporting its ban, citing it resembles rugby, while others defend its effectiveness and challenge.

Senior NFL Reporter Albert Breer shared on his official X platform, “The tush-push ban has been tabled until May, per source.”
Ian Rapoport, National Insider for the NFL Network, interviewed Rich McKay, and wrote on his official X account, “Competition Committee chair Rich McKay said there was 30-40 minutes of discussion, focusing on safety and other issues. Up to 2004, there were rules, the prohibited pushing and pulling. The #Packers asked to reinstate the language, study it, understand it, discuss in May.”
Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur calls Tush Push - “I don’t think it’s a great football, it’s more of rugby. When you’re looking at player’s safety, it should be at the forefront.”, reported Matt Scneidman, a Beat Writer for The Athletic on his X platform.

X users react to banning Tush-Push

The official X account of Barstool Sports shared an X post with the caption,
“Momentum Is Growing To Finally Ban The Tush Push Because The NFL Is Filled With Cowards Who Are Tired Of Getting Their A**es Kicked By The Eagles ”

One X user wrote, “it’s football not rugby”
Another X user mentioned, “1. They shouldn't ban the Tush Push 2. If the Tush Push is legal, defensive players should be able to push the DTs into the line to stop it, which is currently against the rules.”
A third X user also favored Tush-Push: “The Tush Push is unstoppable, but I guess some teams can’t handle the heat 😅 maybe they should start practicing!”
A fourth X user thought like a spectator, “Is it fun to watch? No it’s not”
A fifth X user went back to the Super Bowl LIX results, “So many people are salty that the Eagles won ”
A sixth X user went to the base of it all, “Is there any data at all that says there is injuries from the Tush Push, without that it doesn't make any sense to ban it”
A seventh X user wrote, “I'm in favor of the ban because I signed up to watch football and not rugby. The play is a garbage cheat mode that eliminates short yardage difficulty for one of 32 teams. Not sure why anyone other than Eagles fans would want to see this play in the game which is why it'll be removed.”
