Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has now undergone his second wrist surgery of the offseason, but there's no panic in South Florida. The procedure, which was completed earlier this week, was part of a planned medical roadmap designed to restore the All-Pro receiver to full health before training camp. Despite a difficult 2024 campaign marred by a painful wrist injury, Hill continues to move forward with recovery—and optimism remains high within the Dolphins camp.
Tyreek Hill shares photos after second wrist procedure, fueling Dolphins fans’ anxiety
The initial wrist surgery took place back in February after Tyreek Hill battled through ligament damage for the entire 2024 season. Instead of opting for season-ending surgery in August when the injury first occurred, Hill chose to tough it out, ultimately playing in all 17 regular-season games. According to Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, “He played through a ligament issue throughout last season,” showcasing remarkable durability even as the injury clearly hampered his performance.
Hill’s recent Snapchat updates confirmed that his latest operation involved the removal of screws that had been placed in his wrist during the February procedure. One photo was tagged “surgery #2,” and another read “mission successful,” signaling a smooth outcome. NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero added that the surgery “went amazing,” reflecting the positive tone surrounding Hill’s recovery.
While his toughness was undeniable, the injury took a toll on Hill’s production. He posted just 81 receptions for 959 yards and six touchdowns—his lowest output in a full season since his rookie year. It also marked the first time since 2019 that he didn’t cross the 1,000-yard mark, and for the first time in his career, Hill wasn’t selected to the Pro Bowl.
Despite the dip in numbers, no one is questioning his long-term impact. With 119 receptions and a league-leading 1,799 receiving yards just the season prior, Hill has proven he's capable of putting up historic numbers when fully healthy. The second procedure, as reported by ESPN’s Marcel-Louis Jacques, was always “part of the plan,” and those close to the situation remain confident he’ll be ready when it matters most.
Coach McDaniel has also clarified the Dolphins’ offseason approach with Hill. The star wideout is not expected to handle footballs until training camp and will instead focus strictly on conditioning. “The plan was for Hill to not catch any footballs during the summer,” McDaniel said, ensuring that Hill’s wrist gets the necessary time to fully heal without added strain.
Injury setbacks are never easy, especially for a player of Hill’s caliber. But with a carefully structured recovery plan and both surgeries behind him, the Dolphins’ speedster appears well-positioned to bounce back stronger than ever for the 2025 season.
