Inside late NHL player Johnny Gaudreau and wife Meredith’s beautiful love story that started unexpectedly in New Jersey

Johnny Gaudreau, one of the most talented and popular players in the NHL, tragically lost his life last August, leaving behind a grieving pregnant wife and two toddlers. Johnny Gaudreau passed away alongside his younger brother, famous AHL player, Matthew Gaudreau when their bikes were hit by an allegedly drunk driver. However, Johnny Gaudreau’s wife, Meredith Gaudreau has not let this incident break her spirit. She has been pretty active in sharing anecdotes from her life that she shared with Johnny Gaudreau.


While Johnny Gaudreau and his wife, Meredith’s marriage came to a tragic end in 2024, their love story was straight out of a fairytale.
Meredith was a natal ICU nurse who was living in Avalon, New Jersey, back in 2018. As fate would have it, Johnny Gaudreau was actually living just next to her during his offseason. Soon the two started liking each other and got into a serious relationship.
By February 2020, Johnny Gaudreau and Meredith made their relationship public on social media after they took a trip to Canada together.
In September 2020, Johnny Gaudreau went down on one knee and asked Meredith to marry him. At that time, Meredith shared the news on her Instagram with a caption that read as, “Forever and ever. We’re getting married!!! I love you so much, John.”
Just a year later, in September 2021, the two tied the knot at a beautiful wedding. A year later, in September 2022, Johnny Gaudreau and his wife, Meredith Gaudreau welcomed their first child into the world. They named their daughter Noa Harper Gaudreau and a just a year and a half later in February 2024, they welcomed their son, Johnny Edward Gaudreau.
When Johnny Gaudreau passed away in August 2024, his team Columbus Blue Jackets shared a heartbreaking post on X. The post read as, “Johnny was not only a great hockey player, but more significantly a loving father, son, brother and friend. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Meredith, his children Noa and Johnny, his parents, their family and friends on the sudden death of Johnny and Matthew.”
Tragically, Johnny Gaudreau’s memorial service was held just a few days before what was supposed to be their third anniversary. At the moment, Meredith is pregnant and yet to give birth to their third child.
