The next chapter in the 'Citadel' spy saga is set to unfold, but this time around in an epic 90s setting.
On Tuesday, the series lead stars Varun Dhawan and Samantha unveiled the highly-anticipated trailer for 'Citadel: Honey Bunny', the Indian spin-off in the global franchise. The clip which was over 2 minutes long, gave fans a peek into the thrilling world of espionage that started off the franchise.
After the release of the Priyanka Chopra-led 'Citadel' and the release of Matilda De Angelis' 'Citadel: Diana', the new instalment blending stylish action with a rich storyline seemingly ties together the larger 'Citadel' universe.
Helmed by director duo Raj and DK, the series set in the 1990s, follows Bunny, a stuntman portrayed by Varun Dhawan, who ropes in Honey, a struggling actress played by Samantha, for a side gig. The pair find themselves entangled in a world of high-stakes espionage and betrayal. Years later, they must reunite to confront their dangerous past and protect their daughter, Nadia.

The trailer hints at a deeper connection to Priyanka Chopra’s character Nadia Sinh, who led the original 'Citadel' series alongside Richard Madden and Stanley Tucci.
Speaking to Variety, Varun shared his excitement about the role, saying, “Bunny is unlike any character I’ve played before. As a spy, he leads a double life, with two distinct sides to his personality. It was an exciting challenge, requiring a blend of experiences from my past roles, along with intense physical and mental preparation for the demanding stunts.”

Samantha also expressed her enthusiasm saying, “Being part of an action-packed series with a gripping storyline and characters with rich depth drew me to this project. The hand-to-hand combat and stunts are on par with international standards. Bringing Honey to life was both professionally and personally impactful, marking one of the most significant roles of my career.”
The ensemble cast also includes Kay Kay Menon, Simran, Saqib Saleem, Sikandar Kher, Soham Majumdar, Shivankit Parihar, and Kashvi Majmundar.
'Citadel: Honey Bunny' is set to premiere globally on November 7.
