Rajasthan native held for murder of Isanpur man
Ahmedabad: The city crime branch arrested Shankarlal Meena (48), a native of Rajasthan, from Himmatnagar in connection with the murder of 55-year-old Punam Dantani, who was fatally stabbed while sleeping outside his residence on March 11. The case was registered with the Isanpur police.
During the investigation, the crime branch coordinated with their counterparts in Rajasthan and used CCTV footage and a network of informants to identify the suspect, Meena. Following the incident, Meena fled to Rajasthan after briefly staying in Himmatnagar.
On March 11, Dantani's son, Sanjay, filed a complaint with Isanpur police. According to his statement, his father earned a livelihood by operating a three-wheeled pedal cycle cart. That night, Dantani slept outside their house, and the following morning, Sanjay and his wife went to work in Khamasa.
Later, he received his mother's call informing him about his father's murder. Upon returning home, he found his father in the same spot where he slept, covered with a blanket. When he removed the blanket, he discovered stab wounds on his father's abdomen and chest. He immediately alerted the police and lodged a complaint.
