BAREILLY: Former Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Abdullah Azam Khan, who is son of senior party leader
Azam Khan, has been slapped with a Rs 3.7 crore fine, along with 1.5% interest, by Rampur district magistrate court after he was found guilty in three cases of stamp duty evasion.
The cases relate to purchase of land in Ghatampur-Benazir area of Rampur city during 2021-22, and the DM court of IAS Joginder Singh passed the penalty order on Tuesday.
In 2023, the then SDM sent a report to DM regarding stamp duty evasion by Abdullah Azam Khan while purchasing four plots. Subsequently, the case was registered in the DM court.
Govt advocate (revenue) Prem Kishore Pandey said, "Former SP MLA Abdullah Azam Khan was found guilty of stamp duty evasion in three separate land cases. The DM court imposed a fine of Rs 3.7 crore on him and ordered him to deposit the amount with 1.5% interest."
A SP leader close to Azam's family said they would file an appeal in a higher court against the order.
