BENGALURU: Commuters have long compared the Metro station in Majestic to a maze because of its puzzling signboards and multiple up-down escalators. Now, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is stepping in to fix the chaos: A consultancy firm is being hired to overhaul and streamline the station's signage system.
Tenders have been floated to identify the consultancy firm for the multi-level underground interchange where the Purple and Green lines intersect. The station has been operational for nine years and serves as a crucial hub, handling between 1.2 lakh and 1.5 lakh passengers daily. "But reaching the right platform or exiting at the correct level is always a problem, the signboards are confusing," a user maintained. In fact, the problem was highlighted recently when Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya instructed BMRCL to address it on priority.
In fact, over the years, both commuters and public representatives have repeatedly urged BMRCL to enhance the station's way-finding systems for better passenger convenience. Metro commuter Vishnuprasad said: "BMRCL really needs to work on improving signage at Majestic station. The Green Line has an island platform to travel towards Silk Institute and Madavara, while the Purple Line has separate platforms for Whitefield and Challaghatta. I often see new passengers struggle to find the way from Green Line to Purple Line platforms. A few months ago, floor signage was installed to guide passengers from the concourse to the platforms, but it has now disappeared."
Another commuter, Priyanka A, highlighted issues outside the station as well. "BMRCL must improve signage not just inside, but also around the station. For example, there are no signs at the KSRTC bus stand — right next to the Metro station — showing how to access Metro. There should be clear signage inside the bus stand directing passengers to the Metro station." Long queues to enter the underground station have become a daily sight.
Speaking about the planned improvements, BMRCL MD Maheshwar Rao said, "We've received suggestions regarding the signage system. The selected consultancy will study the current issues and identify areas for improvement. Based on their findings, we will implement the necessary measures."
