Bengaluru: A few colleges in the city received similar emails Monday night that explosives will go off on their campuses but checks on Tuesday revealed them as hoax.
The emails were checked by the respective colleges Tuesday around 11 am, and they alerted the police. Police rushed to the colleges along with the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS), and after searching for explosives in every corner, they declared it a hoax. Students and staff were sent out of the premises during the search.
According to sources, over 10 colleges received emails, but only four of them officially lodged a complaint. The emails were sent from '
[email protected]' with the profile name Rajpur Sindaar. RV College of Engineering and College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath were among the institutions that received the threat emails.
Each college received the email twice from the same ID around 9.13pm and 9.31pm. ‘Bomb blast in your college, and save ur students and principal life from bomb blast,' it read.
A senior police officer said, "We took the non-cognisable register, and with court's permission, we will be registering an FIR. We are going to write to Gmail to provide details of the ID created and the IP address for further necessary action."
