BHOPAL: A 26-year-old BSP neta, who had switched over from Congress just two days ago, was beaten to death by a group of 15 people on a street in Satna town around 1am on Monday.
The victim, Shubham Sahu, was a history-sheeter, said police.
The incident took place at Mahdeva Mohalla of Satna, 520km from Bhopal. Sahu had returned from Bhopal to his hometown on Sunday. The same night, he was attacked. The 15 men hit him with sticks and stones and left him bleeding on the road.
He was taken to Rewa district hospital, 60km away, but died on the way.
Satna SP Ashutosh Gupta said, “Three persons were named in the FIR and the rest unidentified. All three — Pankaj Gautam, Rajnish Gautam, and Vipin Gautam — have been arrested, and we are looking for the others. Prima facie, a land-related dispute is seen to be the reason behind the incident.”
“The deceased was of a criminal background and was an accused in around a dozen cases. He also faced externment (from the district) in the past. It has come to our knowledge that he recently joined BSP,” Gupta said. Sahu held official positions in Congress and before switching sides, say sources.
