NEW DELHI: Madhya Pradesh's Special Director General of Police-Rail Manish Shankar Sharma, 58, passed away due to sudden cardiac arrest in Delhi late Sunday night.
The 1992-batch IPS officer had gone to the capital for a routine check-up when the incident occurred, according to family sources.
Sharma, who held a Masters in International Affairs and Public Policy from the University of California, had extensive experience in international security and counter-terrorism.
During his 25-year career, he served across four continents, including positions with the United Nations, central government, and Madhya Pradesh state administration.
The Mayor of San Diego, USA, had honored Sharma by declaring July 20, 2015, as the "Manish S. Sharma Day" in recognition of his contributions to strengthening US-India relations.
His father, Kripa Shankar Sharma, had previously served as the chief secretary of Madhya Pradesh.
The accomplished police officer is survived by his wife and two sons.
