Hisar/Delhi:
PM Narendra Modi on Monday flagged off the first commercial flight between Hisar and Ayodhya and laid the foundation stone of Rs 410-crore terminal of Maharaja Agrasen Airport in Hisar, Haryana.
"With the inauguration of this flight, the sacred land of Shri Krishna in Haryana is now directly connected to the city of Lord Ram," he said.
The event marked a major development in regional air connectivity, and the upcoming terminal will include a cargo terminal and an ATC building. "Hisar airport will elevate the aspirations of Haryana's youth, providing them with opportunities and dreams," the PM said.
"With scheduled flights from Hisar to Ayodhya (twice weekly), three flights in a week to Jammu, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Chandigarh, this development will mark a significant leap in Haryana's aviation connectivity," a govt statement said.
The flight links Hisar's Maharaja Agrasen Airport with Ayodhya's Valmiki Airport. The ON added that more destinations would soon be added to the airport's roster. "Millions of Indians flew for the first time in the last 10 years. We built airports even in places that didn't have decent railway stations. Before 2014, India had 74 airports. Today, there are over 150," he said.
Modi noted that 90 airports have been connected under the UDAN scheme, with air services now operational on more than 600 routes. Airlines have placed orders for 2,000 new aircraft, which he said would boost employment opportunities for the youth.
