JIND: A woman and her paramour murdered her one-and-a-half-year-old infant in Jind district on the occasion of Holi, police said.
The accused, identified as Sonu (30), kidnapped the infant, Yash, while he was playing outside his house in Chattar village of Uchana town in Jind district.
According to reports, Yash's father, Amit, filed a case at Uchana police station, stating that his son was playing in the street when two individuals on a motorcycle suddenly abducted him.
Amit chased the kidnappers up to the Baba Mansa Nath temple in the village, but due to their high speed, he was unable to rescue his son. Later, the child was found dead in a canal near Badanpur.
Speaking to TOI deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sanjay Kumar revealed that the child’s mother was in an illicit relationship with her brother-in-law (her husband’s elder brother). The two had been planning to marry, and the woman often accused her husband of being physically unfit. However, they saw Yash as an obstacle in their relationship.
To eliminate him, they planned the murder. Sonu kidnapped Yash and threw him into the canal while he was still alive, leading to his death by drowning.
After receiving information, the police recovered the child’s body and arrested Sonu, who later confessed to the crime. He has been placed in judicial custody and sent on a three-day remand for further investigation.
A case was registered at the Uchana police station, prompting the police to take immediate action and launch an investigation. The child's postmortem was conducted at Narwana Civil Hospital before the body was handed over to the family, he said.
