Chennai: City police in the last two days arrested 14 people for possessing methamphetamine.
On Friday, four people were arrested in a joint operation by local police and Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU). Police were acting on a tip-off about movement of peddlers and apprehended the four near Saidapet railway station. Around 6g of methamphetamine was recovered from them.
The arrested were identified as Mahatma Engels, 24, of Orathanadu, Thanjavur; Karthik Kumar, 26, of Tirunelveli; J Srinivasan, 24, of Ramanathapuram; and S Kamaraj, 31, of Thiruvottiyur, Chennai. Police inquiries revealed that the accused had sourced the drug from Bengaluru.
Four more E Arputharaj, 28; G Shanmuganathan, 28; and Alex Praveen, 44 all from Pattabiram; and Andro Pinjoy, 29, of Ayapakkam were arrested in Ice House police limits with 12g of methamphetamine. They had also sourced the drug from Bengaluru.
In Anna Salai police limits, the ANIU team apprehended six people, including a woman, based on a tip-off near Peter's Road flyover. About 3g of methamphetamine, 6g of OG ganja, 605g of ganja, 14 MDMA tablets, and 76,000 cash were seized from them. The arrested individuals were identified as Mohammed Azharuddin, 24; Mohammed Mublik, 26; Jebith Titus Kumar, 24; Roy Edmond Rajkumar, 23; Mohammed Yasin, 24; and Regis Priyanka, 33. All of the accused were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
