Coimbatore: A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Monday for breaking into a house on Kurumbapalayam-AG Pudur road at Athappagoundenpudur near Irugur, along with a youth, and stealing gold ornaments weighing 13 sovereigns, 100 grams of silver articles and Rs50,000 in cash.
The Singanallur investigation wing police have formed a special team to nab the youth who broke into the house along with the minor boy, and two of their accomplices.
Pointing out that the house belonged to Nandakumar-N Jayanthi couple, of Periyathottam, a police officer said the incident occurred after the couple left for Koduvai around 11.30am on Monday.
"When they returned around 2pm, the couple found that the front door lock was broken open. Suddenly, two people came out of the house, assaulted Nandakumar and ran away. With the help of villagers, the couple managed to catch the minor boy. The person who was with him managed to escape with two others, who were waiting near the house on two motorcycles," the officer said.
The escaped trio also took away the stolen items. Based on Jayanthi's complaint, the Singanallur investigation wing police registered a case and arrested the minor boy. He was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and later lodged in the observation home for juveniles at Lakshmi Mills Junction on Tuesday evening.
The officer said all the four involved in the house break-in were natives of Tirunelveli district.
