NAMAKKAL: The Paramathi Velur Taluk Lorry Owners Association (PVTLOA) in Namakkal district halted the operation of more than 500 trucks on Tuesday demanding reopening of the Sterlite Copper plant in Tuticorin.
The demonstration, led by association president K Senthil Kumar, saw more than 300 truck owners striking and chanting slogans demanding reopening of the plant to protect the livelihoods of truck owners. The truck owners presented their demands to govt officials, holding banners and shouting slogans.
Senthil Kumar addressed reporters, stating that the increase in gold prices was due to a shortage of Sterlite copper wire used in gold production, urging the Tamil Nadu govt to establish a new legal framework.
He appealed to chief minister M K Stalin to take necessary steps to reopen the Sterlite plant, emphasizing the need to protect the livelihoods of truck owners.
