Coimbatore: A tusker nicknamed Baahubali strayed out of the reserve forest and was seen roaming on the Mettupalayam- Coonoor Road, causing a scare on Wednesday night.
The tusker usually comes out of the Odanthurai reserve forest after 10pm and crosses the road, to head to Bhavani riverbed for grazing. However, around 8pm on Wednesday, Baahubali strayed out of the reserve forest and was seen roaming on the busy road.
However, the elephant did not chase after any passenger vehicles. Frontline staff of the forest department managed to safely drive the pachyderm off the road around 8.30pm. Baahubali then headed to the Bhavani riverbed.
"Baahubali was later safely driven back into the reserve forest around 4am on Thursday," said Mettupalayam forest range officer Joseph Stalin.
