ERODE: AIADMK members locked horns at the executive committee meeting that was held in Gobichettipalayam on Wednesday in the presence of former minister K A Sengottaiyan and threw chairs at each other.
It all began with AIADMK youth wing member Praveen of Anthiyur confronting Sengottaiyan about the absence of invitations for the party meetings. “Sengottaiyan called him to the stage for a discussion. An argument ensued between Sengottaiyan and Praveen. As the dispute intensified, other AIADMK members physically restrained Praveen, pushed him to the ground and dragged him out of the venue. Following the uproar, Sengottaiyan left the place,” one of the party members, who attended the meeting, told TOI.
Pointing out that he had been the Anthiyur union secretary of the AIADMK youth wing since 2011, Praveen said there was a lack of respect within the party. “I am excluded from meetings and when I raised concerns I was attacked.” However, some AIADMK members interrupted him while taking to the media and forcibly removed him, creating a scene.
Sengottaiyan clarified that the individual who confronted him was not a party member. “Certain people are attempting to disrupt the meeting by sending in outsiders. Anyone raising complaints must now present their membership cards.”
While Sengottaiyan claimed that Praveen was not affiliated with the AIADMK, interestingly an old photo of him with Praveen surfaced on social media on the day.
