Incomplete projects, land acquisition issues dominate Viriato’s grievance meet in Quepem
Margao: South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes on Wednesday held a public grievance redressal meeting in Quepem, where incomplete infrastructure projects and decades-old land acquisition matters emerged as major concerns among local residents.
The meeting, attended by Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa and various govt department officials, brought to light several unresolved issues, particularly the controversial new municipal market complex project. Fernandes criticised the previous BJP govt for prematurely inaugurating the incomplete structure before the 2022 polls.
“The building was inaugurated when it wasn’t at all ready and remains incomplete. I sense a political hand behind these delays,?Fernandes said while speaking to reporters after the meeting.
A significant case highlighted during the session involved land acquired for an irrigation project in 1978-79, where property owners were unaware of the acquisition. “Imagine their state when they are told that the land no longer belongs to them. This points to a systemic failure,?the MP said, directing officials to handle such cases with sensitivity.
The grievance meeting also addressed various public concerns related to basic amenities such as electricity and water supply. Officials from relevant govt departments were present to provide immediate solutions to these issues.
D’Costa expressed his commitment to resolving long-pending issues faced by Quepem residents. “Through this session, we listened to the grievances of Quepemkars and addressed them with the concerned department officials,?he said.
Fernandes assured that solutions discussed during the meeting would be implemented soon, while also emphasising his party’s efforts to strengthen its presence at the grassroots level. The MP expressed confidence that Congress would secure an absolute majority in the 2017 assembly elections through such public outreach initiatives.
