Refer heart patients immediately to cardiology wing: Rane
Panaji: Health minister Vishwajit Rane threatened to suspend the doctors who do not directly refer patients with abnormal heart rhythms, heart muscle damage, or irregular blood flow to the heart to the cardiology wing of the GMC.
“I have given a direction to the chief medical officer and the medical superintendent that when a patient comes from the primary health centre or community health centres with ECG changes, that patient is not to be taken to the casualty or to the medicine wing. The patient should be taken directly to the cardiology ward,” said Rane.
He added that an additional 30 beds were added to the cardiology ward at Goa Medical College.
“If there are ECG changes, will the patient survive if you take him to the casualty ward and then the medicine ward and then later to the cardiology ward? That is why I have given these directions,” Rane after he conducted a surprise inspection at GMC on Thursday.
He also said that ten 108 ambulances were blocked for VIP movement in the state. The health minister said that he will write to the chief minister saying that the state requires 100 ambulances so that at all times, 90 ambulances are available in Goa to ensure quick response time.
