GUWAHATI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday stated that 82% of the conditions of the third Bodo Accord, signed in 2020, have been fulfilled by the Centre, while the remaining will be implemented within the next two years.
Addressing the 57th annual conference of the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU), Shah commended the student body's role in bringing peace to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) areas, which were previously afflicted by insurgency and violence.
On 27 January 2020, when the Bodo Peace Accord (third Bodo Accord) was signed, Shah said that Congress had questioned the government's commitment to bringing peace and prosperity to the Bodoland region.
He said, "Today, the Centre and state govt have accomplished 82 percent of the conditions of the accord signed in 2020. In the next two years, 100 percent fulfilment will be achieved," emphasising that after full implementation, there will be lasting peace in the BTR.
Shah stated that on 1 April 2022, as per the accord, AFSPA was fully withdrawn from the BTR region. "For the development of Bodoland, the govt of India and the state govt have allocated Rs 1,500 crore for a population of only 35 lakh," he said, highlighting the BJP-led government's dedication to the Sixth Schedule area.
Over the last three years, he said, Rs 287 crore was utilised for the rehabilitation of 4,881 NDFB cadres, with 90% contributed by the Modi government.
Remembering Bodofa Upendranath Brahma, the distinguished Bodo leader and social activist who served as the President of ABSU, Shah announced that a significant road in Delhi will be named after Brahma.
"I have come here to announce that we have decided to name a very prominent road in Delhi in the name of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma." He added that the decision will be implemented in the first week of April.
