ABVP seeks death penalty for rapists

Silchar: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) put up a blockade in Sribhumi town on Friday, protesting against the distressing prevalence of rape and molestation of women in the district and seeking capital punishment for the culprits.
Members of the student organisation obstructed the thoroughfare connecting Sribhumi with Silchar, causing significant traffic disruptions throughout the day.
"Just this week, a woman was molested on a bus in Badarpur and another women was raped in the Nilambazar locality. We demand that the individuals involved in such heinous acts be sentenced to capital punishment," an ABVP spokesperson said.
He acknowledged the police's efforts in apprehending the offenders. "However, we have observed that many miscreants do not receive exemplary punishment, allowing them to resume their criminal activities upon release. Only capital punishment can free society from such atrocities," he added.
