Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that investment proposals by govt and private entities worth of over Rs 1 lakh crore submitted at the ‘Advantage Assam 2.0' business summit in Feb will begin by this year-end.
The two-day business summit in Feb garnered investment proposals totalling more than Rs 5.18 lakh crore. Sarma said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation for the Guwahati Ring Road during his visit in Sept, coinciding with the inauguration of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika's birth centenary celebration on Sept 8."
The Rs 7,500-crore ring road project includes a bridge connecting Narengi and Kuruwa across the Brahmaputra. The state govt will contribute 50% towards land acquisition costs and reimburse forest royalty and GST to the construction firm, with total state expenditure exceeding Rs 1,000 crore. The central govt has allocated Rs 3,000 crore as viability gap.
Modi will also inaugurate India's first bamboo-based ethanol bio-refinery at Numaligarh Refinery. The tender for the new Brownfield Ammonia-Urea Complex at BVFCL, Namrup, will be released by Sept, with construction beginning in Dec, Sarma said.
Further, Adani Group has confirmed the Oct inauguration of Guwahati's airport terminus. "The group's aerocity project will commence simultaneously, with willingness to progress on all proposed projects subject to land availability and logistics," Sarma said. He added that a greenfield highway linking Guwahati and Silchar, and a tunnel beneath the Brahmaputra between Numaligarh and Gohpur are approaching approval stages.
