Mixed response to Karnataka bandh in Belagavi

Mixed response to Karnataka bandh in Belagavi
Belagavi: Karnataka bandh, called by various Kannada outfits on Saturday, received a mixed response in Belagavi. Kannada activists blocked roads and protested in some areas. However, buses and auto rickshaws plied as usual, and there was no disturbance to the running of schools, colleges, and commercial establishments.
The bandh call given by Kannada organisations demanding a ban on MES and addressing the atrocities committed against Kannadigas in Belagavi received a lukewarm response. Normal life was uninterrupted. Transportation, along with all educational, commercial, and financial institutions, operated as usual. Hundreds of Kannada activists who protested in various places in Belagavi were taken into custody.
Various Kannada organisations held a combined protest march from Ashok Circle (Kote Kere) to Rani Channamma Circle and organised separate protests throughout the day in various parts of the town. However, as a precautionary measure, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses going to Maharashtra and buses coming from Maharashtra to Belagavi were suspended.
Hundreds of activists from Kannada organisations protested and expressed their anger in Athani, Ghataprabha, Hukkeri, Sankeshwar, Chikkodi, Nippani, Bailhongal, Kittur, and Savadatti. The owners of private public and goods carriers, along with the hotel owners' association, stated they support the demand but would not participate in the bandh to avoid inconvenience to people.
