Sushant Singh Rajput Death Case: CBI files a closure report in the late- actor’s case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a closure report in the death case of Pavitra Rishta fame Sushant Singh Rajput. The actor was found hanging in his Bandra residence on June 14, 2020. On Saturday, the CBI submitted its final findings before a special court in Mumbai. This will now decide whether to accept the report or direct further investigation, officials informed PTI.
The probe by the Mumbai Police had suggested suicide. It had confirmed no signs of forced entry found at the scene. Investigators also pointed to depression as a possible reason which led to his suicide. His body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan, but no suicide note was found.
However, the case took a major turn when Sushant’s family filed an FIR in Patna against actress Rhea Chakraborty and others, accusing them of abetment to suicide, theft, cheating, and several other things. This led to a jurisdictional conflict between the Bihar and Mumbai Police, as the latter had been handling the case from the beginning.
After a request from the government of Bihar, the central government handed over the case to the CBI. On August 19, 2020, the Supreme Court authorized the agency to conduct an independent investigation. During its probe, the AIIMS forensic team ruled out theories of “poisoning and strangulation,” dismissing claims that Sushant’s death was anything other than suicide. With the CBI now submitting its closure report, all eyes are on the Mumbai court’s decision on the future course of action in the case.
