HC extends stay on supernumerary teacher posts

Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Wednesday extended the interim stay on West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) making appointments to the supernumerary posts in physical education and work education. Justice Biswajit Basu will hear the appeal on June 18On May 19, 2022, the school education department had issued an order creating 6,861 supernumerary posts of assistant teachers and non-teaching staff to accommodate candidates on the waiting list. The HC on Nov 18, 2022, had imposed the interim stay until Dec 1, 2022, which was extended from time to time and most recently on Feb 10, 2023, when it was extended until the end of April 2023. In this backdrop, the state had filed an application for vacating the interim order.
