Kolkata: The Santaldih Thermal Power Station, run by the West Bengal Power Development Corporation, has been adjudged the best power plant in the country by the Central Electricity Authority. This was posted on X by CM Mamata Banerjee on Friday. As many as 5 power plants from Bengal were in the top 10, with Bakreswar at 2nd position and Sagardighi at 4th. CESC's Haldia TPP was ranked 3rd.
CEA, the nodal body for power in the country, announced the annual ranking of all 201 thermal power plants in the country, based on operational efficiency (Plant Load Factor) parameters.
"For 2024-25, CEA ranked Santaldih Thermal Power Plant of our WBPDCL (with PLF 94.4%) as the best (ranked 1st) performing thermal power plant in the country. Our Bakreswar plant (PLF 93.3%) was ranked 2nd, Sagardighi (PLF 90.8%) at 4th, and Bandel (PLF 89.6%) at 9th position (nationally) by GOI," the CM posted. CESC's Budge Budge TPP was also in the top 25.
Santaldih has a capacity of 500 MW while Bakreswar has a capacity of 1,050 MW, Sagardighi 1,500 MW, and Bandel 275 MW. Haldia has a capacity of 600 MW.
According to the CM, WBPDCL, with an aggregate PLF of 88.9%, was ranked the best-performing company in the country, surpassing giants like NTPC, DVC, Adani Power, Reliance Power and Tata Power. "Congratulations to our officers, engineers and workmen for bringing out their best and making the state proud!" she added. NTPC has a PLF of 76.1% while DVC has a PLF of 75.7%. Adani Power and Reliance Power have PLFs of 73% and 77.8% respectively.
State power minister Aroop Biswas said the result had been possible because of the constant guidance and support of CM Mamata Banerjee.
