LUCKNOW: In a string of thefts, three masked men raided three houses in Dubagga in the early hours of Thursday, leaving behind a trail of ransacked homes, broken locks and shattered emotions.
Among the valuables looted was a small piggy bank filled with Eidi.
The thieves targeted the house of one Mohammad Meraj, a bakery worker and decamped with Rs 1.4 lakh he had saved for a bakery machine. His wife's jewellery and son's piggy bank were also taken by the thieves. However, the thieves discarded all artificial jewellery.
Meraj said his son, Umar, had saved money in his piggy bank, primarily consisting of small cash gifts received during Eid.
"The burglars broke into our home by forcing open two iron doors and ransacked every corner of the house. They took cash, jewellery as well as Umar's piggy bank," he said.
Along with Meraj's home, the burglars also struck the residence of Dr Meraj Amir, a practitioner at private hospital. The doctor and his family had gone to their native village in Sandila for Eid celebrations. Upon their return, they found the locks of their home broken and the interiors ransacked.
The burglars looted jewellery, cash and valuables worth Rs 5 lakh.
Another victim, Syed Fayaz of Fatima Colony, also suffered major losses. The thieves stole jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh, Rs 20,000 cash, and even food items, including dry fruits, from his home while he was away in Kushinagar.
Despite the burglaries being caught on CCTV, locals claim that the police have failed to take any action. Victims allege that they modified their complaints multiple times before an FIR was finally registered. The lack of effective police patrolling has left them feeling vulnerable.
SHO, Dubbaga, Abhinav Kumar said police were scanning CCTV footage to identify the suspects and arrests will be made soon.
