Ludhiana: Two men, said to be drug addicts, were arrested for allegedly kidnapping an individual, tying him to a pillar and beating him up with sticks for refusing to give them money. Police filed a case against the accused after a video of the man being thrashed went viral on social media. The accused have been identified as Sukhjit Singh Sukha of Manuke and Jaspreet Singh Jassa of Jattpura village.
The complainant, Buta Singh, said that he was on his way to work in the morning when he met Sukhjit and Jaspreet. He said that they demanded money from him but when he refused, they forcibly took him to Sukhjit's house on their motorcycle.
The complainant said that Sukhjit tied him to a pillar and beat him with sticks, while Jaspreet made a video. He said that they beat him so severely that he bled all over and fell unconscious. Thereafter, the accused locked him in a room. At night, he found a chance to escape and slipped out, after which he went to the police station, said the complainant.
A case was filed under sections 140 (3) (related to kidnapping or abducting in order to murder or for ransom, etc.), 127 (2) (wrongful confinement), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), and 351 (3) (criminal intimidation) of BNS.
Investigating officer, ASI Sulkhan Singh of Hathur police station, said that both the accused were arrested. He added that the video circulated on social media shows one man thrashing the victim and the other filming the assault.
Preliminary probe indicates that both the accused are drug addicts. Police said that two cases of drug peddling have been registered against Sukhjit and one against Jaspreet. They have both been jailed before. Further investigation is on.
