District-level exhibition for products of SHGs held
Mangaluru: A district-level exhibition and sales fair for products produced by self-help groups was held at the Mangaluru taluk panchayat premises on Saturday.
The event was organised by the district administration, zilla panchayat, skill development, entrepreneurship and livelihoods department, and Sanjeevini Karnataka State Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society.
Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat project director KE Jayaraj inaugurated the event. Sanjeevini NRLMS is providing a platform to market products from rural self-help groups. He advised women in the groups to make good use of this opportunity and obtain food quality and safety certifications, as well as business registration certificates.
Mangaluru assistant commissioner Harshavardhan SJ inaugurated the stalls of self-help group products and encouraged the women by purchasing products. Mangaluru taluk panchayat executive officer Mahesh Holla spoke about how the Sanjeevini groups' stalls serve as an example of women's empowerment.
During the event, the activities of the Sanjeevini Okkottas in the district were recognised, and awards were distributed. The Guttigaru Amara Sanjeevini gram panchayat-level okkotta received the Best Okkotta Award along with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
The Goltamajalu Ashirvada Sanjeevini Gram Panchayat Okkoota received a certificate of appreciation and Rs 75,000, and the Balnadu Samruddhi Sanjeevini gram panchayat-level okoota received a certificate of appreciation and Rs 50,000.
Among the active self-help groups, the Goltamajalu Shri Siddhivinayak self-help group received Rs 75,000, the Tanniru Pantha Lakshmi Sanjeevini Okkoota received Rs 50,000, and the Kodimbadi Vijaya Shri Self-Help Sangha was awarded Rs 25,000. More than 70 products in about 30 stalls garnered attention.
