Mangaluru: Mangala Resource Management Pvt. Ltd., an eco-conscious startup inspired by the Ramakrishna Mission's Swacch Mangalore Abhiyan, partnered with the Greener Sustainability Accelerator and JPAL to conduct an Environmental Impact Study for 2023–24. The study revealed that the company successfully achieved net negative carbon emissions, mitigating an estimated 20,58,256kg of CO₂ equivalent emissions.
This success is attributed to efficient waste segregation and recycling, alongside food waste composting using the Hermi compost method. Managing director Dilraj Alva said the company remains committed to expanding its waste recovery programmes and deepening engagement with local communities and institutions. He said plans are under way to extend the Zero Waste programme to more campuses and neighbourhoods in the coming years.
With operations in Karkala, Bantwal, Yedapadav, and Puttur, the company established state-of-the-art material recovery facilities (MRFs) that are significantly reducing landfill dependency through efficient waste sorting and recycling. Its zero waste campus initiative, implemented in collaboration with Kateel Durga Parameshwari temple, Nitte Deemed to Be University in Deralakatte, and Infosys in Mudipu, is promoting circular economy practices at the institutional level, a release stated.
