NAGPUR: A fire broke out in a goods train carrying coal near the Kalamna goods yard, close to Shivshakti Bar on Old Kamptee Road, on Sunday. Officials said the blaze was reported in one of the coal-loaded bogies.
The Lakadganj Fire Station dispatched a fire tender (registration number MH-31-7925) to the spot immediately after receiving the alert. Officiating Chief Fire Officer B P Chandankhede said the fire-fighting operation is currently underway, and no casualties have been reported so far.
Firefighters are battling to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other bogies. Preliminary information suggests that the coal load may have self-ignited, but the exact cause is yet to be confirmed.
The operation to douse the fire is still in progress, and cooling efforts will follow once the flames are completely extinguished.
