13 students detained after bomb explosions at PU hostels
Patna: Bomb explosions allegedly rocked Patna University campus within the jurisdiction of Pirbahore police station in the state capital on Sunday. According to police, no injuries or untoward incidents were reported in the incident.
The incident stemmed from a violent clash between inmates of Cavendish and Minto hostels on Thursday. Subsequently, at 1.30am on Sunday, hostel boarders allegedly exploded four bombs and pelted stones at each other. Upon receiving information, police officers arrived at the hostel and took 13 students into custody for interrogation.
DSP-I, Town, Diksha, said authorities received reports of violent confrontations between inmates of Minto and Cavendish hostels in the early hours on Sunday. "Upon police's arrival, several inmates were seen rushing out of the hostel. Evidence of stone pelting was visible, and there were indications of a possible bomb explosion. Officials are conducting investigations to ascertain whether crude firecracker explosives or other explosive materials were set off," she said.
"Subsequently, law enforcement officials executed a search operation at the Minto Hostel. They found explosive-making materials and additional items in several locked rooms. Authorities have detained 13 students for interrogation. Police have registered an FIR and are proceeding with additional legal measures," the DSP said.
According to the PU authorities, the hostels have not been officially opened yet. The form for hostel accommodation was released on April 25. Even before this, the students started putting up in the hostel illegally. The university administration issued a notification to apply for the hostel accommodation from April 21 to 26. The hostels of Patna University have been closed since last year's BN College student Harsh murder case.
On April 25, students of two groups had reached Sheetla Mandir on the way to Krishna Ghat to eat ‘bhandaara'. During this, a heated argument broke out between the students of both hostels over some issue, leading to a fight. Students since then have clashed with each other about three times.
