Patna: Vigilance sleuths caught two employees of the district education office in Arwal red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a resident of Mehandia village at a hotel in the town on Monday.
Jitendra Singh Gangwar, director general (vigilance), said a complain against head clerk Manoj Kumar and computer operator Santosh Kumar Sharma was lodged by one Dhananjay Kumar Singh at the Vigilance Investigation Bureau on April 21, alleging that they were demanding bribe for processing his service benefits.
The bureau verified the complaint and found evidence of the accused demanding the bribe. Following the confirmation of the initial charges, a trap was set under the leadership of Pawan Kumar-II, deputy superintendent of police, (vigilance), Patna.
"During the operation, the accused were caught red-handed accepting the bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant at a hotel near the district education office. The accused have been arrested and will be presented before the special vigilance court in Patna after questioning," the DG said.
He added this is the 23rd case against corruption registered in Bihar in 2025. A total of 20 corrupt govt officials have been arrested red-handed in 18 traps set by the bureau since Jan. An amount of Rs 7,05,000 has been recovered so far during this period.
