Leakage in PMC water supply line near Dandekar bridge, supply likely to be affected in some areas
Pune: Water supply to Shivajinagar and Sadashiv Peth is likely to be affected on Tuesday after a PMC's water supply line near Dandekar Bridge developed a leakage on Monday night.
Officials from PMC's water supply department said that repair works had been initiated and expected to continue late into the night.
The leakage led to flow of water on the road, resulting in traffic disruption for some time.
Nandkishor Jagtap, head of PMC's water supply department, said, "This is an old line that supplies water to Shivajinagar area. We shifted the supply to a new line, but some areas still receive water through this old line. The leakage developed late on Monday night. The water supply to the line was stopped as a precautionary measure. Our teams are repairing the fault and restoring the supply."
The line developed similar leakages in the recent past. Jagtap said that it seems the pipeline was unable to handle the water pressure, which resulted in bursts and leakages. "We will submit a proposal for replacing the line to avoid frequent bursts. Our teams will also check the water pressure at other supply lines in the area," Jagtap said.
