Youth on way to buy food dies in accident in Pune’s Chakan

Pune: A 21-year-old youth died after a truck knocked him down along the Chakan-Shikrapur Road on Sunday night. Two other people were also injured in the accident.Police identified the deceased as Rohit Jadhav of Chakan and arrested the truck driver on Monday on the charge of causing death by negligence.An officer from the Chakan police told TOI that the accident happened around 9.30pm on Sunday. Jadhav and his friend, Satyam Kote, were walking towards an eatery located along the Chakan-Shikrapur Road. They were on their way to buy chapatis for dinner. The duo was waiting to cross the road, when a truck headed from Shikrapur towards Chakan suddenly changed lanes. It crashed into a pick-up truck parked on the opposite side of the road."The truck went on to knock down Jadhav, Kote and one more person, Rahul Koli. All three were standing near the pick-up vehicle. Jadhav died on the spot, while the other two sustained injuries," the officer said, adding that police have arrested the driver (59) of the truck.
