RAJKOT: Bhavnagar police have arrested five persons for the murder of father and son duo on Monday. Jayanti Makwana (50) and Vinod Makwana (22) were hacked to death by a group of eight persons in front of a police constable in Bhavnagar.
Sources said the five accused were nabbed following a tip-off that they were planning to board a train to Mumbai from Bhavnagar railway station.
"We arrested them from a local hotel near the railway station. Those arrested are Raju Rathod (40), Jignesh Rathod (32), Jenti Makwana (45), Pravin Chauhan (23) and
Sanjay Chauhan (20),'' police inspector Z R Desai of Local Crime Branch in Bhavnagar said.
Makwana and his son were being taken to a local executive magistrate for hearing on a bail application by two constables on motorcycles. They had been arrested on September 12 following a petty quarrel in Karchaliyapara area. When they reached Law College, the accused came from behind on motorcycles and assaulted them with sharp edged weapons.
The police suspect that the attack was a fall out of old enmity between the victims and the accused. The accused and victims had been quarrelling over various petty matters over the last few years. The police are now trying to identify and nab the remaining three accused.
