KRISHNAGIRI: The husband of a former panchayat president at Thopadikuppam in Krishnagiri district has been sentenced to one year’s imprisonment in a cheque bounce case.
M Periyasamy, 57, the husband of former Thopadikuppam panchayat president P Devi, borrowed Rs 10 lakh from V Seetharaman, 43, of Mekkalampatty village on Jan 7, 2015.
Periyasamy, who runs a nursery business, gave a cheque to Seetharaman for repayment. However, when Seetharaman deposited the cheque on March 4, 2015, it bounced due to insufficient funds in Periyasamy's account.
Seetharaman initiated a case against him. Judge Shanmuganathan of the Pochampally sub-court sentenced Periyasamy to one year’s imprisonment and directed him to pay Rs 10 lakh within three months. If he fails to repay the money in three months, he will have to undergo additional three months of imprisonment.
