Police book woman for mocking disabled couple
T'puram: Medical College police on Wednesday booked a woman for allegedly mocking a couple with physical and mental disabilities after trespassing into their house. The woman, who is a relative of the couple, claimed ownership of the land and house, at Kochulloor, where Asha, 39 and Ajayaghosh, 51, lived for years.
The accused, Swapna, 44 of Powdikonam, also tried to evict the couple from their house, which is claimed to be on puramboke land, said police.
According to police, the allegation is that, by mocking them for their disability and abusing them, the accused allegedly pelted stones at the couple and their house. Locals shot a video of the atrocities and shared it with medical college police.
Police soon registered a case after recording the statements of Asha and Ajayaghosh, under BNS Sections 329 (3) for criminal trespass, 118 (1) for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon or dangerous means and 296 (b) for abusing. Section 92 (b) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act-2016 was also invoked against the accused.
