Sexual assault: Probe woman’s plaint, says court
T'puram: A court directed Poonthura police to register a case against a man for sexually assaulting a woman. She approached the court after the police allegedly failed to register a case on the assault that happened on Jan 4 this year.
The woman was allegedly attacked by Johnson, 50 of Muttathara, while coming back home after work. Next day, she filed a complaint against the man at Poonthura station, but police were reluctant to register a case. Instead, a case was registered against the woman's husband for attacking Johnson.
In response, the woman approached judicial first-class magistrate court-5 and the court accepted her plea, directing police to register a case. Police stated that the woman's complaint was not genuine, as it was intended to take revenge against Johnson for registering a case against her husband.
"The accused is a womaniser and had committed same offence against other women before as well. He had misbehaved with me a year ago and a complaint was registered as well. This time, he touched me inappropriately and I told my husband. When confronted, he attacked my husband. He filed a complaint against my husband to deceive police. His relatives are prominent CPM members and using political influence, the accused influenced police. Hence, we had to get court's help to get the case registered," woman said.
Based on court's direction, police have now registered a case. TNN
