‘Akorik’ is a story of a 75-year-old man, who grew up in a traditional Bengali joint family system, and a 10-year-old boy, who lives with his mother – a single parent. The man, now in his final phase of life, lives in a beautiful town amidst the hills with his ailing wife where he meets the boy who had come there for a vacation with his mother. The two develop an emotional bonding despite their different upbringing values and eventually share a philosophical journey together.
There has been a disintegration of the joint family system in the Bengali community down the ages giving birth to nuclear families and today it has reduced to even single parenting. It is a cultural crisis and over the years, many generations have survived without knowing their roots, the outcome is severe often. The film tries to look into the situation neutrally searching for an answer to a significant question.... where are we heading to?

“It’s an effort to talk about the disintegration of Bengali Families down the ages…. the traditional Joint Family Structure broke into Nuclear Families and today it is further getting reduced to Single Parenting. Has this been a crisis? Are we drifting away from our roots more and more? I firmly believe that people all over the world would connect with this film,” shared the director while speaking about the film’s concept.
‘Akorik’ is now gearing up for its theatrical release.
