Scarlett Johansson has opened up about why she sometimes says no when fans ask for selfies. The 40-year-old star, known for roles in films like Black Widow, recently spoke to InStyle magazine about the issue. She explained that when she’s not on set or attending events, she prefers to stay in her own world without being recognized or having to take pictures with strangers.
According to a report by IANS (via MENAFN), the popular Hollywood actress admitted that while this decision upsets some people, she values her personal space and privacy when she isn’t working. Scarlett mentioned that this can make some fans unhappy, but she feels it’s important for her mental well-being.
In her own words, Scarlett said she often tells people, “I’m not working.” She wants to make it clear that outside of her professional life, she’s just trying to live quietly and enjoy her own company. The actress shared that she doesn’t like feeling self-conscious or being reminded of how others see her. “I like to be in my own thoughts that have nothing to do with what other people think of me,” she said. “I don’t like being self-conscious.”
Scarlett is also related to singer Chappell Roan, who has spoken publicly about struggling to adjust to fame. Scarlett said she became a fan of Chappell over the summer and understands how challenging it can be to deal with intense attention from fans. She also mentioned that when she was younger, she dated actors who had “heart-throb” status, and she found it a little scary. She added, “Fan crush-dom can be really hard.”
The actress also talked about how turning 40 last November has changed her perspective on life. She described it as a “liberating” experience, saying that she now cares much less about what people think of her. In an interview on LIVE with Kelly and Mark, Scarlett said, “So far, it’s great... You also don’t care what anybody thinks, which is so liberating.”
Scarlett’s honesty about fame, privacy, and personal boundaries gives fans a better understanding of her choices when she steps away from the spotlight.
