'SSMB29': SS Rajamouli’s next film featuring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumar plot revealed
SS Rajamouli, the visionary filmmaker behind 'Magadheera,' 'Eega,' the 'Baahubali' franchise, and 'RRR,' is gearing up for his next cinematic venture, an epic jungle adventure starring Mahesh Babu. The yet-untitled film also features Priyanka Chopra as the female lead, marking her significant return to Indian cinema, while Prithviraj Sukumaran takes on the role of the antagonist. Currently in production, this project is being touted as one of the grandest spectacles in Indian cinema, combining elements of Indian history with mythological undertones.
According to Pinkvilla, the film’s core narrative unfolds in the spiritual city of Kashi. Due to logistical challenges, the filmmakers are recreating this ancient land of Shiva in Hyderabad through elaborate sets. The story is said to be deeply intertwined with Kashi's historical essence, where the divine past ignites an adventurous present. "Kashi isn’t just a backdrop; it is a significant character in the film," revealed a source. SS Rajamouli plans to capture the film in a hybrid format, blending real forest locations with meticulously constructed sets replicating India's monumental landmarks. The filmmaker aims to take the audience on an extraordinary journey through diverse terrains, from dense forests and serene rivers to mysterious caves. Some of the most untouched locations in India and Africa are being explored to elevate the visual grandeur. While Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj have already commenced shooting, Priyanka Chopra is set to join the team in Odisha, where pivotal forest sequences are being filmed. This phase marks the beginning of her collaboration with Rajamouli and her long-awaited return to Indian cinema.
This ambitious project, tentatively titled 'SSMB 29,' is poised to be a major milestone in Priyanka Chopra's career. With a narrative that blends history, mythology, and adventure, the film is shaping up to be a landmark in Indian cinema. 'SSMB 29' is anticipated to be launched with an official announcement soon, and the biggie is set for a Summer 2027 release. The shooting of the star-studded film is currently underway in Odisha.
Meanwhile, Prithviraj Sukumaran is gearing up for the release of his most awaited upcoming directorial film 'L2: Empuraan'. Scripted by Murali Gopy and starring Mohanlal in the lead, the action flick 'Empuraan' is set to hit the big screens on March 27 and the expectations are quite high. Prithviraj Sukumaran's previous outing was the comedy entertainer 'Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil'.
