'Shrek 5' teaser SLAMMED for Shrek, Donkey, Fiona character redesig; fans tell makers "Ya'll got a year to fix the graphics"

'Shrek 5' teaser has fans both excited and disappointed. While beloved characters like Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona return, fans aren't satisfied with the updated designs, noting they look 'old' and different. The new animation style and redesigns of characters like Felicia, voiced by Zendaya, have sparked criticism, with some calling for revisions before the 2026 release.

After a decade long wait, fans of the animated film 'Shrek', will soon be treated to the fifth instalment of their favourite Oger's adventures.
The first teaser of the film was dropped online on Friday, giving fans a first look at Shrek, Donkey, Fiona, Pinocchio and their all-grown up daughter Felicia. But, while the clip saw the favourite characters returning to screens, their appearances didn't quite sit well with the fans.
The teaser confirmed that 'Shrek 5' will bring back Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy. Additionally, Zendaya will join the voice cast of Felicia, one of Shrek and Fiona’s triplets, first introduced in 'Shrek the Third' (2007).

With 15 years having passed between 'Shrek Forever After' and 'Shrek 5', fans were eager for the franchise’s revival. However, many have been left unimpressed by the character redesigns that some felt, made the beloved characters look 'old' and rather different from their loveable selves. "What’s up with their faces?" fans asked as they shared pictures comparing the old design with the new.
Noting that Shrek’s face now had added forehead and eye wrinkles, others noted that Donkey’s greying fur make them appear noticeably older. Fiona, on the other hand, appeared "toothless" and a "nose-job", complained fans.

Beyond the apparent ageing of the characters, some fans also took issue with the film’s new animation style, which features a more and polished look compared to previous installments. "Did they get Botox? Why are they like that?" one user joked, while another criticized the visuals, saying, "Why does the animation look like an AI interpretation of what Shrek 5 could look like."

Many also noted that the face in the Magic Mirror was different from the original. while still another found a major flaw in the character design of Felicia, played by Zendaya. A fan noted, "The one girl baby shrek had blue eyes, the two boys had brown eyes, and now shrek 5 daughter has brown eyes… okay shrek 5 show me what you got i dare you to do it."

Considering that the film has a 2026 release date, others demanded that the makers spend the rest of 2025, getting back the original look and charm of the characters. "@Shrek #Sherk5 YALL GOT A WHOLE YEAR TO FIX THIS GRAPHICS/AI is you pushing to us bcuz this ain’t it!!"
Should the makers decide to bring back the characters' original look, it would not be the first time that fan demands would have prompted the makers to re-edit their film. Back in 2020, the fan uproar over the character design of Sonic The Hedgehog prompted the makers to delay the film's release and rework on the character to bring back its iconic new look.
